Handicrafts that breathe tradition, yet whisper modernity
M’s Miroir is a distinctive handicraft brand founded by Mitra Roy, a Graduate in Geology from Calcutta University who chose to follow her true passion for art and craft. After spending over a decade working with renowned design houses, she embarked on her independent journey by establishing her own creative unit under the name M’s Miroir (with Miroir meaning “mirror” in French, and M’s signifying “Mitra’s”). Together, the name reflects her artistic vision — a mirror of her imagination and creativity.
Mitra’s creations are diverse and ever-evolving, ranging from masks, dolls, pots, and wooden installations fused with wrought iron sculptures to ornaments, key rings, table mats, serving trays, wall hangings, paintings, and other home décor pieces. Her portfolio defies confinement to any single form or medium. Each piece carries her signature ability to merge tradition with innovation.
What makes her work unique is her ongoing dialogue with India’s rural and tribal communities. By engaging directly with artisans and immersing herself in local traditions, she draws inspiration from indigenous techniques and motifs. Her works embody a rich blend of Indian folk artistry intertwined with subtle Western influences that often surface through her subconscious explorations. Through M’s Miroir, Mitra Roy offers not just objects of utility and beauty but also reflections of a lifelong journey dedicated to celebrating the spirit of handicrafts.
